Toy Carrot Crochet Pattern

SIMPLE CARROT CROCHET PATTERN:

Approx. = approximately 

Beg. = beginning

Ch.(s) = chain(s)

St.(s) = stitch(es)

Sl.St. = slip stitch

Sl.knot = slip knot

R(#) = row/round (number of row/round)

Sc. = single crochet stitch

Hdc. = half double crochet stitch

Hdc2tog. = half double crochet 2 together stitch

Yoh. = yarn over hook

Cont. = continue

Rep. = repeat

Sk. = skip

Sp. = space/spot


FINISHED SIZE: 

21cm in length X 5 cm in width


MATERIALS:

  • 100% cotton yarn medium weight 4

24 meters/approx. 15 grams in A (orange) 

1.5 meters in B (green)

  • Size 4-4.25 mm (U.S., G/6) crochet hook

  • Tapestry needle and scissors 

  • Poly fill for stuffing

 

INSTRUCTIONS (A): THE BODY


  • Using A, start with the magic circle


  • R(1): do 7 Sc. inside the ring then join the round by pulling the circle tight and Sl.St. into the first Sc…..(total….7 Sc.)


  • R(2): CH.1 and do 2Hdc. into the same Sl.St. and into each St. around then join with a Sl.St. into the first Hdc……(total….14 Hdc.)


  • R(3): Ch.1 and do 2 Hdc. into the same Sl.St. and 1 Hdc. into the next St. then *do 2 Hdc. in next St. and 1 Hdc. into the next one. Rep. from * until the end of the round, join with a Sl.St. into the first Hdc…..(total….21 Hdc.)


  • Now start filling the body and shape it as you go up.


  • R(4-7): Ch.1 and do 1 Hdc. into the same Sl.St. and into each St. around, join with a Sl.St. into the first Hdc….(total….21 Hdc.)


  • R(8-14): Decreasing rounds.


  • R(8): Ch.1 and do 2Hdctog over the first 2 Sts.(the same Sl.St. and the St. after), then do 1 Hdc. into each of the next Sts. until you have only 2 Sts. left, do 2Hdctog over the last 2 Sts, join with a Sl.St into the first St.….(total….19 Hdc.)


  • R(9-14): Rep. R(8), Starting R(9) with 19 Sts. and ending at R(14) with only 7 Sts.


  • Fasten off your work

INSTRUCTIONS (B): THE LEAVES


  • Using B, do a Sl.knot and Ch.8


  • Do a Sl.St. into the second Ch. from the hook and into each of the next 6 Chs. DO NOT cut the yarn…(7 Sl.Sts.)


  • Continue and make another set of 8 Chs.


  • Do a Sl.St. into the second Ch. from the hook and into each of the next 6 Chs…(7 Sl.St.)


  • Fasten off leaving enough thread to sew the stem you just made into the bottom of the carrot (the wide end)
