Life has a funny way of pausing projects before we're ready to finish them. This blanket is one of those projects.
I actually started it back in November of last year. It looked simple enough in my mind and I was excited to begin. But once I started working it up with the stitch I picked, something just didn't feel right. The stitch didn't sit the way I wanted it to. The texture wasn't matching what I had imagined. Basically what always happens with any project or pattern I start until I end up with a 100% different version than the one I had in mind.
I decided to crochet this throw using the alternating front and back post double crochet stitch. It's such an easy stitch pattern and it creates the most beautiful texture. Soft ridges that feel structured yet cozy at the same time. Sometimes the simplest stitches really are the most satisfying.
Yarn, I'm using vintage white Bernat Blanket with size 8.0 mm crochet hook. This yarn definitely an investment (it's not the cheapest) and so far I've used three balls. I'm guessing I'll need at least six or seven to finish the whole blanket. But honestly, I love how it feels. The thickness, the softness, the way it works up so quickly, projects made with this yarn always turn out beautifully.
After starting it in November, Life got busy. I reorganized my craft room, assembled the new yarn shelves, changed the wall papers and shifted everything around. The blanket was folded and set aside during all of that. Sometimes creativity has to wait while we create space for it.
Now that my cozy corner feels refreshed and organized, as you saw in the videos I posted, it feels right to pick this project back up again.
For a long time, this blanket had no timeline. It was just a slow project, no rush, no deadline just stitch after stitch, row after row, growing steadily in the background of everyday life. But now.....I do have a deadline.
This coming Friday, I'll be publishing the full pattern for free on my website and suddenly, this once slow and quiet project has a little spark of excitement behind it. It feels special to finally finish it, not just for me, but to share with all of you. Sometimes a project waits until the timing feels right. And maybe that's exactly what this blanket was doing.
Thank you for being here, for reading, and for encouraging. Your support truly means more than you know. I can't wait to finally release this pattern on Friday and see your own beautiful versions come to life.
